Mrs. Margot Thomas, the National Archivist of Saint Lucia from 1992, is the Chief Executive Officer of the National Archives Authority of Saint Lucia. A qualified teacher, with a Certificate in Library Studies, she taught English Language and English Literature at the secondary school level, for nineteen (19) years. Mrs. Thomas gained a B.A. (Hons) Degree in English with History from the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill Campus in 1986. In 1992, she graduated from the University College, London with an M.A. in Archives Administration and Records Management.
Mrs. Thomas belongs to a number of local, regional and international organizations. She served as President of the Caribbean Branch of the International Council on Archives (CARBICA) from 1997 to 2001 and a member of the CARBICA Executive Council until 2006;. She was also a member of the Executive Council of the International Council on Archives (ICA) from 2000 to 2002. At present, she is a member of the Executive Council of the Association of Caribbean University, Research and Institutional Libraries (ACURIL); a member of the Executive Council of the Association of Commonwealth Archivists and Records Managers (ACARM); Chairperson of the Saint Lucia Memory of the World Committee and a member of the Latin America and the Caribbean Regional Memory of the World Committee.
Mrs. Thomas considers herself a closet writer who enjoys writing both prose and poetry. In 2000, she published Twin Peaks and Execllence in honour of Saint Lucia's two Nobel Laureates, Sir Arthur Lewis and Hon. Derek Walcott and in 2006, From Slavery to Freedom: Some aspects of the social and economic impacts of slavery through a UNESCO grant.
In 2007, Mrs. Thomas was presented with the ACURILEAN STAR Award for excellence in research and publication by the Association of Caribbean Universities, Research and Institutional Libraries and in 2008, with the Eagle Award for excellence in the field of archiving and records management by the Students of Heroes Gallery.
Mrs. Thomas is currently working on two other publications: Notable Saint Lucians and First Ladies.
